The 40th edition of Secoli Fashion Show was held on June 8th 2023, at the Talent Garden in Via Calabiana in Milan. Students at the end of their three-year course of study took their creations to the catwalk, in front of an audience eager to celebrate this important milestone.
Alongside the Institute and the students were Regione Lombardia, which contributed to the realisation of the initiative, the Comune di Milano, and the most important associations in the fashion industry: Antia, Camera Nazionale della Moda, IACDE, Piattaforma Sistema Formativo Moda, Sistema Moda Italia.
"I would like to thank Istituto Secoli, which for almost 90 years has been engaged in training fashion professionals, a leading sector in Milan and Lombardia. Around 4,000 designers walked the runway at the Secoli Fashion Show, a fashion show-event supported by Regione Lombardia through the Demo competition. Congratulations on the numbers achieved. The word that commonly is most associated with the world of fashion is 'creativity', an element that is undoubtedly key to success in this field, but which must go hand in hand with study, commitment, manual skill, tradition and, today, digital technology. This is what our fashion schools do, with top-level teachers and many students who dream of seeing their garments on the catwalk or in the shop windows of Montenapoleone. They too, and not only the great designers who are already established, are the first ambassadors of Made in Italy, as they have the responsibility to continue to transmit it, bring it to life, renew it, with an eye to the past and an eye to the future”. These are the comments of Barbara Mazzali, Councillor for Tourism, Territorial Marketing, Fashion and Major Events of Regione Lombardia.
On the occasion of the 40th edition, the format of the event was enriched with different contributions: at the entrance, guests were welcomed with a gift, a beautiful printed organic cotton T-shirt whose graphic subject, representing one of the different cultural eras from the 1980s to the present day, was created by the students enrolled in the second year.
Then the guests, before taking their seats at the sides of the catwalk, went through an immersive and emotional journey through the history of the Secoli Fashion Show: musical video installations recounted the fashion shows that followed one another from 1984 to 2022.
On arrival in the hall to precede the physical fashion show, another surprise to welcome guests and catapult them into the present day of new technologies: the virtual fashion show "4 DECADES OF SECOLI FASHION SHOW" with 5 outfits selected from the outfits that were showcased in the 1985, 1996, 2010, 2016 and 2022 editions summarized the evolution of fashion from the 1980s to the present day.
Opening the physical fashion show were the collections of the 'Designer To Watch' project by alumni emerging fashion talents Margherita Aureli, sisters Anna and Silvia Cristofolini, Gabriele Fabris and Giovanni Fotia.
This was followed by the Secoli Fashion Show 2023 inspired by theconcept WHERE HERE - 'What you create depends on what you see'.
And finally, many were the students who, thanks to the commitment shown throughout their training, received important awards from their partner companies at the end:
