Designer to Watch with the collection "Performing a ritual"
Performing a ritual
The genesis of Gabriele Fabris’ menswear collection is to be found in Armenian director Sergej Parajanov’s film “The Colour of Pomegranates”. The work is distinguished by an enchanting atmosphere, visual lavishness, remarkable colours. Scenes are imbued with tradition and symbolism; gestures, performed with liturgy and solemnity, are of sacred nature.
The designer’s interest stems from the images’ holistic echo: in the work’s narrative the dimension of everyday life seems infused with a ritualistic performance. The multiple roles the actress Sofiko Ciaureli plays both as a man and a woman gave way to the union of both stylistic expressions in a sartorial menswear collection where some of the garments have been made entirely by hand.
