HERITAGE AS A CELEBRATION OF RETURN
Looking at the present to be in one's own time; mastering the past to better understand today, giving rise to new knowledge. Time acquires value in the reworking of ideas and in the definition of heritage, a process and result of the relationship with the past that leads to the attribution of different meanings in the present. Celebration as return, the return of the idea deprived of its original condition but in a new guise, within a contemporary time flow.
The primordial greeting as an act that opens to acquaintance. An individual’s identity is generated from relating to the other and the greeting is the first act of connection. The interaction is immediate and leaves a permanent trace. Its significance has changed in time losing importance and causing the person to feel defenseless in the face of the residue of a now discredited value. Human relations are now temporary, reality is virtual, dialogue is reduced, the fear is to vanish (afraid to disappear).
Idolatry as an adoration practice. The venerated idol takes a material form, impersonated in solemn depictions charged with value; the idol represents perfection, it is a celebration of beauty and power. In the idolatry process the most significant evolution is achieved through intense attachment to the idealized figure. Only science doubts its societal value, causing its downfall. Myth fascinates, captures, but only at the end does it appear clear that a new molding is needed to prolong the adoration cycle.
The Berlin Wall as the subject and starting point of the collection. The wall is “demystified”. The attempts to overcome and tear it down in the years have proved useless, giving up space for an architectural “barrier” with historical value and artistic power. The wall acquires a symbolic significance made up of dualism; its identity appears mixed: brutal and melancholic on one side; energetic, subversive and instinctive on the other.
The Artistic Value of the object is measured through activism, intended as the tendency to consider the moment of action relevant above all other aspects of any activity. Manifesting itself through the celebration of knowledge, be it satire or condemnation, is the transformation of matter which generates an overturning of meaning where art is the tool for action.
To bring to light what is apparently invisible, to safeguard, reveal and take care of it in order to give potential meaning to the subject that regains new life: it is the action behind the artistic value guaranteed by the figure of the curator. Time unveils and reveals everything, and it is necessary to safeguard and know how to conserve, in order to then take back and bring into the present objects characterised by a new modernity and evolution of use.
The ugly as expressive meaning. The canons of traditional artistic culture are dispossessed and the value attached to the unattractive acquires new connotations. The challenge is to learn to see without preconceptions: beauty in art is no longer considered an aesthetic pleasure but an expressive language. Aesthetics is now conceived as a fascination of the unconscious, what appears is interiority.
Everything is born, grows, transforms and develops. We start from the evolutionary concept of the primordial state: aesthetic messages, like organisms, are initially undefined and imperceptible raw matter that subsequently changes appearance. Everything is in motion, forms adapt, slowly expand; they grow, take on concreteness and new appearances. The canons of aesthetic value appear different, they are the result of continuous creative evolution.
