“INSPIRATIONAL SEMINAR” @ THE SCALA ANSALDO WORKSHOPS

@CostumeExperience @ArtsAndCulture

Thanks to the precious support of Gianluca Bauzano, authoritative writer of "Il Corriere della Sera" newspaper and well-known expert on costume, fashion, music and entertainment, our third year students had the opportunity to experience a two-day "inspirational workshop", in anticipation of their thesis work.

The place where the creative experience took place, giving free rein to new ideas, is one of a kind: The Scala Ansaldo Workshops, an imposing structure of 20,000 square metres, divided into three pavilions, with the capacity of hosting artisanal stage sets, scenography, sculpture, thermoforming, carpentry, mechanical workshops, scene assembly, tailoring, costume making, and a laundry!

A space where more than 60,000 costumes are kept; a heritage that exists thanks to the daily work of over 150 workers, including carpenters, blacksmiths, set designers, set design technicians, sculptors, seamstresses and costume designers, who create the entire stage setup from a simple sketch.

The main aspects addressed over the two days were:

  • the parallelism between dress and costume - presented by the journalist Bauzano during the visit to the theater atelier, presented through stories of those who live the theatre every day, giving life to incredible and exclusive creations;
  • moments of open discussion on artistic themes, drawing on inspiration and/or interesting ideas so as to share more widely artisanal values;
  • the mastery involved in the creation of extraordinary costume designs. This topic was explored whilst viewing costumes and garments belonging and lent to the theater collections, also from important designers in the fashion world - to name a few Versace, Missoni, Yves Saint Laurent and Coveri.
